Bouldering course

Is your grade stagnating or are you running out of strength on routes? During the bouldering course you learn how to find solutions to different situations, learn to use various movements and how to make best use of different shaped holds. The course is divided into three separate sessions that are held one session a month in order. You can either pick the meeting that interests you the most or participate in all three. Each session gives you a bit deeper insight into climbing technique. Towards the end of the course you should have the necessary knowledge (and skills with practice!) to progress in climbing by yourself and you’ll also make more sense out of the terms thrown by other climbers who’re trying to give you tips for your climbs.

First session is a good place to start if you’ve tried climbing a couple times and would like to learn more about how to make use of different holds and how to get up even on the steeper walls. Have you wondered how others get up with holds that are “the wrong way” or don’t seem to have any surface to grab on to? Why don’t the other climbers flail off the steep walls and why is that guy pushing on the holds instead of pulling?

Second session will get you familiar with how to better control your movement and also how to create it when needed. Do you often feel like you start to swing off the wall like a “barn door”? Does it look like a feat of strength to get to the next hold or to require the flexibility of an acrobat?

Third session takes you through some of the more challenging techniques that might not be as obvious to pick up or might be a bit harder to learn.  You’ll also learn how to work through routes that feel hard to you, also known as “projecting”. Have you seen someone use their heel instead of toes or fingers or heard people talking about manteling or doing a gaston? And why do some people start the route from the middle instead of the beginning?

Sessions briefly:
The first session: ways to warm up, various holds and wall shapes as well as utilizing your hands and feet on those.
The second session: the ways to create create movement and how to control it.
The third session : more advanced techniques (heel/toe hooking, manteling, etc.) and projecting routes.

Each session lasts about 2 hours and the whole course includes all three.
