Oulu Open Boulder

We’re organizing an open style boulder competition on 14.2.2026 Saturday at our 24/7 Boulder (opposite main hall). There will be a men`s and women´s series and a U16 series for girls and boys. Otherwise there’s no age limit to the competition, but do note that the routes are made with adults in mind. The U16 participants can also get into finals if their score allows it. We will award the top 3 from U16 girls and boys categories after the qualification rounds are over.

The qualification round is climbed in an open comp style with about 30 routes. This means there will be a wide variety of routes to try even if you’re not aiming for the finals! You’re allowed to watch others attempts and can freely choose what routes and in what order you attempt the routes within the given time. There will be be two starts for qualifications to reduce crowding on routes and to allow more people to come and enjoy the competition. Everyone will climb on the same routes in the qualification round. The top 6 men/boys and women/girls from both series will get to compete in the finals.  The routes are numbered from easiest to hardest with the highest number being the hardest. The number of the route also means how many points it’s worth. Your goal will be to try to climb 10 as hard routes as you can with as few tries as you can. The finalists will be settled by who has the highest score.

You’ll receive a paper score card when you sign up at our front desk. Mark your climbs and tries to this score card and return it to competition staff after you’re done. The score card will be used to resolve tie situations if necessary. The final result will be entered through a QR-code with your phone.

The finals round will have 4 routes for both series. Each climber has 4 min to try each route. After everyone has had their attempt at a route, you’ll get to try the next route. While you wait for your turn, you’ll be in a separate quarantine area next to the walls. Each route has a zone that is worth 10p. Topping a route gains you 25p. Each try after the first attempt reduces the points you’ll receive from the route by 0,1p. The maximum amount of points available during the finals is 100p. So the winners will be the ones with the highest score after they’ve tried the 4 routes. The main awards will be given to the top 3 climbers from both categories will receive a prize. We’ll also hold a raffle to give some smaller product prizes from our sponsors among the participants.  The winners will receive shoes of their choice from Tenaya and a premium membership to 27 Crags!

24/7 Boulder will be closed during 11.-14.2. because of the competition setting. The door links will be out of use during this time. The links will be back in use after the competition is over. We will start setting new routes at the latest on Monday morning. We will put some of the qualification routes back on wall if possible but most will be new routes. The main hall facilities are in use as usual during the week according to our opening hours!

During the qualification round competitors can come and go as they want from the venue. During both rounds competitors and volunteers can enjoy refreshments from Olvi’s KevytOlo line and Teho sports + protein drinks. We ‘re also offering Planet Aminos Power cookies during both qualification rounds. Otherwise you can bring your own snacks and drinks.
